What you must not do in content SEO
There are some things you must not do in SEO. If you do not keep the rules, the website do not rank up as if you got penalty.
- Do not make useless pages for search engine users
- Do not link to unimportant pages too many
- Do not ditch managing internal links
- Do not make collection of links without diversity
- Do not forget to set links to relevant contents
Search engines do not like useless and redundant contents. You should not write useless articles in order to only make big contents volume.
The search engines know user's demands, and they do not appreciate pages which is not suitable for responding them.
But do not be afraid of duplicated contents and article theme too much. That is because the search engines do not like useless contents. Even if the content seems redundant by technical view, often the content is useful for the readers.
On such cases, search engines appreciate the contents.
Recently search engines evolved rapidly, and they come to understand useful contents and useless contents accurately.
Old fashion engines uses density of the keywords, and checking copied contents. They works as just a program. But latest search engines uses following statistic data and schemes which are similar to human.
- Theme analysis data about queried keywords and selected page's content
- Topic genre and the feature
- Human actions which are like click through rate
Therefore it is very hard to technically detect the content is useful or not. Human sense is nearer from one of search engines in most of cases.
But it is uneasy that we can not understand how the content is evaluated. Especially we become nervous about the penalty.
Then we have to do is checking other website with same topics. Latest search engines has own scheme for each topic. For example, most of website with programming topics has source code, and it has a lot of duplicated contents in it.
But it does not become penalty, that is because the search engines has algorithm to handle the genre of topics.
If you set links to unimportant pages too much, search engines misunderstand where is the important page to show on the search result.
For example, keyword tags in general blog systems like the wordpress generates a lot of links toward tag's summary page. And if the anchor is target keyword, then search engines recognize the most important page for the keyword is the page.
Then they choose the page for the keyword result. But the page has few original content, then the rank is lower than that when the best page for the keyword was chosen.
Therefore you have to consider the CMS and Blog setting, so that it does not generate links to unimportant pages with optimised keywords too many.
Building internal links is sometimes very troublesome task for content writers. But do not ditch that.
That is because the search engines evaluates website, which is collection of pages, by internal links.
If the web master recognize the information structure of website, it is possible to build useful internal links and link structure. But do not recognize that, it is impossible.
Recently, SEO companies notice inbound links from external domain do not effects so much for ranking, so they starts services to create a lot of text as out sourcing.
But if they just write contents to make volume and they are useless for human, that is considered as content spam by search engines.
Therefore, by building effective internal links, you can appeal that the content is managed and useful for human, to search engines.
The CMS and Blog systems are very useful, because they outputs Html codes with links automatically.
But sometimes it generates links without diversity. Natural contents and links has diversity, but automatically generated contents has patterns.
Especially you have to take care of them when you set link with short words. If the words are same with query keywords, and the ratio of the links are more than 10% of all links in the website, then it is dangerous.
But according to my experience, if they are on the bread list, my sites did not get penalty.

The body sentences part is where you write manually, but other parts are generated by CMS or system automatically. Even if you set one setting, but it causes a lot of same and optimised links.
Safety location is following ones.
- Bread list links
- Top menu links
I think setting optimised short text on these parts is one of SEO technique. And it is necessary for websites to put short text in order to navigate visitors naturally.
If your website has similar pages, you have to link them each other, or make summary or category page and set links to them.
This is effective way to avoid redundant content penalty.
I have a website with such pages, which are similar theme and include similar sentences, but by linking them, the google seem to regard them as case studies with rich cases, not low quality contents.
